This painting was done for competition in the Grand Marais Art Colony plein air competition in September, 2012. I painted it on location at Grand Marais, Minnesota. It was a beautiful morning and it brings back great memories of a slower time.

The translucent quality of watercolor lets the paper reflect light to create an inner glow that gives the painting more life. I enjoy both plein air (painting on location) and working in my studio in Northern Minnesota. I try to capture a sense of presence and a fresh look at the subject.
 I am a member of the Northstar Watermedia Society and the Minnesota Watercolor Society. My paintings have been in juried exhibits, galleries and private collections throughout the region.
